On behalf of the Lao Farmer Association (LFA), in cooperation with AsiaDHRRA for the CSO-led GAFSP project review, the team successfully completed a field visit of the AFN II project in Beng District, Oudomxay Province, from 9–11 February 2026.
This video teaser highlights the comprehensive review of the Agriculture for Nutrition Phase II (AFN II) project, which encompasses key interventions such as the pig-raising group, chicken-raising group, model family for mushroom production, home garden grants, Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) activities, rice porridge preparation, and wild food initiatives. Project progress was thoroughly assessed through community interviews, as well as extensive photo and video documentation.
The AFN II project is being implemented across 500 villages in 20 districts spanning the provinces of Phongsali, Oudomxay, Xiengkhouang, Salavan, Sekong and Attapeu. Running from 2023 to 2030, the project’s core objectives are to:
- Improve the livelihoods of 28,000 vulnerable households within the project areas.
- Increase the income of target villagers by at least 20% compared to pre-project levels.
- Strengthen food security and nutrition among target villagers.
- Build resilience to climate change and further increase household incomes by 2030.
In Baeng district alone, the project covers 25 target villages, benefiting 3,163 households and a total population of 17,049 people, of whom 8,373 are women.
During our field visit, we interviewed three community members: Ms. Bouaphone (Home Garden Group), who transitioned from low-yield traditional farming to farming sustainable; Mr. Douangkham (Chicken Raising Group), who utilized modern coops and vaccination training to eliminate poultry disease and generate new household income; and Mr. Vard (Mushroom Production Group), whose production has increased and his family’s quality of life has genuinely improved since the project arrived.
